merry xmas to all!
Mae's entry:
A big highlight was a drumset that the Nokomai team got for the boys. Andy & I conclude that the team are trying to tell us that they don't like us too much. It's like getting deoderant as a gift. No one gets drums for kids unless they dislike the parents.
We soon discover a couple of hours later that Paul & Kim had purchased the exact same drum kit.
Andy & I conclude that Paul & Kim don't like us much either.
NOTE:
We told both the team at work as well as Paul & Kim about how we've interpreted the drum kit "gift" - we got a lot of laughs, but clearly, this is coming from people who do not have 2 boys that already drown the parents out sans drums.
Which brings me to Christmas morning. I'll try to recall as chronologically correct as possible, but Christmas and Boxing day passed in a bit of a blur because we were a little busy:
CHRISTMAS DAY
8am
Mae & Elliot head downstairs to get Elliot's morning fix of milk. Elliot sees the drumkit that the Nokomai team have given the boys. Andy has assembled it the night before. Elliot forgets his morning fix and decides that this shiny toy is a lot more interesting.
8am - 830am
Elliot is a free form drummer / dancer and is twirling in between drumming, like those traditional Korean drummers you see on tv. Mae has started to tidy up for the guests that are arriving later.
She's not sure if she should be happy that Elliot is distracted while she does housework.
She *is* sure, however, that drums are very loud.

830am
Aiden comes downstairs and decides that he can drum better.
Aiden comes downstairs and decides that he can drum better.
830am-9am
More drumming for the boys.
More tidying for Mae who is grateful for the distraction.
9am
The chef awakes!
930am
Andy starts preparing for the big meal ahead.
The boys are a little tired out and start having breakfast, but Aiden. who's not in a highchair, takes the occassional sneak trip to the drum kit in-between bites.
1030am
The oven goes on.
More drumming by both boys while the floor is mopped. It has now been 2 and a half hours of drumming.
11am
The. Drumming. Has. Stopped.
Aiden asks me where the drumsticks have gone. Elliot who has a tendency of being a scavenger when it comes to food and a mockingbird when it comes to remote controls is the main suspect, but he draws a blank when I ask him. I tried.
1115am
Paul, Kim & Kate arrive!
Paul starts making his trifle.
1130
Lovely smells start wafting from the kitchen.
During the occassional trip to the kitchen to get drinks for the kids, I see Andy chopping, peeling, and moving at the speed of light.
12noon
Grandpa & Grandma arrive!
1215pm
The boys, have not opened a single present yet and they're bursting. They were told that they could open presents as soon as grandma and grandma arrive. A present is opened but we're told to stop till the 2 senior Naylor boys are out of the kitchen.
Lots of "why"s ensue from Aiden who doesn't understand why Daddy and Uncle Paul need to watch him open his presents.
1230pm
The trifle is in the fridge, the lamb needs another 15 minutes, and the 2 senior Naylor boys are finally out of the kitchen.
1230-1245pm
The kids are let loose and Elliot has a field day tearing open his presents. He seems happy to just tear and almost looks surprised that there is *something* underneath the wrapping paper.
Aiden is happy reading all the notes and cards on the presents and is happy handing out the presents.
Kate has got a a wooden bike with 2 wheels but no pedals from Paul & Kim. It's to help her get her balance on 2 wheels before she actually starts pedalling. (The alternative old school way is to get enough scrapes from falling off a 'traditional' bike to the point where you're so tired of falling, you just have to keep pedalling to save the last of your skin).
